Dear Beha-Amprobe Customer,
Fluke has identified a safety issue affecting Beha-Amprobe branded MT204-S Machinery-Testers (“Testers”) manufactured in 2018 or later when used in high voltage testing function.
As of 2016, EN 61557-14, one of the applicable EU harmonized standards issued under the EU Low Voltage Directive, requires two-hand operation for test equipment when used for high voltage testing as an additional level of protection against electric shock during use. It was recently discovered that in 2018 the shrouded test leads set initially supplied for use with the Testers, which required two-hand use, was inadvertently replaced with an alternative unshrouded test leads set that did not require two-hand operation. In order to bring the affected Testers into compliance, Fluke will provide a set of shrouded two-hand use test leads free of charge to be used with Testers manufactured in 2018 or later in case of high voltage testing (instead of the originally provided set).
Before further use of your Tester, please review the information below in this Safety Warning to determine if your Tester is affected by the issue identified in this Safety Warning and what steps you must take to request a compliant test lead set for use for high voltage testing.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this might cause you and hope you will understand that customer safety is our utmost priority.
The MT204-S Test Leads shown in 1.1 must not be used for high voltage testing according to 2016 EN 61557-14:
NOT Approved for High Voltage Function usage.
All Test Leads shipped with MT204-S Machinery Testers or separately as an accessory to the MT204-S Machinery Testers that are shown in 1.2 can be used for high voltage testing according to 2016 EN 61557-14. MT204-S with missing Test Leads should be considered affected by the safety issue identified in this Recall.
Approved for High Voltage Function usage.
A. Description of safety issue
It was discovered that a shrouded two-hand use test leads set was not provided as part of MT204-S Machinery Tester accessory kit from 2018 onwards. A two-hand use test leads set is specified as mandatory by EN 61557-14 for conducting high voltage tests to provide an additional level of protection against electric shock. It should be noted that the use of alligator clips or other unshrouded test probes provided in the MT204-S Machinery Tester accessory kit are not permitted for use for high voltage tests.
B. Corrective Measure:
Please IMMEDIATELY STOP using your MT204-S Machinery Tester and refer to the “High voltage test (HV function)” section in the updated product manual. Please register via the link below to receive a pair of shrouded two-hand use test leads for high voltage tests at no charge. Only use the shrouded two-hand use test leads with the Affected Product for high voltage testing.
C. What you need to do now
Register your MT204-S Machinery Tester below, where you will be provided with further detailed instructions. Please include your complete contact information, including email address and shipping address. We will send you a pair of shrouded two-hand use test leads to use with your Tester for high voltage tests. Only use the shrouded two-hand use test leads with the Affected Product for high voltage testing.
Please accept our most sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused and should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at fluke.recall@fluke.com.
Sincerely,
Paul Feenstra
